The morning of the launch (April 19) is an exciting start to an adventure. In my case, I only knew one person in the group (Jim, our trip leader) and I had never even seen the Grand Canyon before. Jim got the permit when another group cancelled and had just over one month to assemble a crew that could leave for three weeks.
